096 - character design

the start of my last story idea for first semester of senior project. this story has been in the works for ages, and probably has some of my favourite characters that i've designed in it (it probably isn't hard to see who i accidentally end up drawing the most).

this story is heavily inspired by the kurt vonnegut quote "true terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country." it takes place in an apocalyptic alternate reality where one day, everyone over the age of 21 is killed. the country ends up being run like a high school popularity contest, where anyone who is "different" or "weird" or "not normal" is ostracized and often persecuted. cooper and his small gang try very hard to take these leaders down.

095 - character design

so here's some more character design, except this time it's for my sequential art class. our assignment is to design a marketable character and make a 5-page comic about it. i'm still working on the comic, but here are the designs.

my story is about the crew of a steampunk-inspired airship delivery service. the introductory comic is told from the perspective of taciturn, the betta fish character who happens to be based on my own betta fish. and sebastian is based on my childhood dog that passed away a few years ago. his character is recently married, and i'm very tempted to name his wife belle, just to be a dork.

after i graduate i plan on starting a webcomic, and it's entirely possible that this is the idea i end up going with for it.

094 - character design

third out of four sets of character designs for my senior project this semester. this is one of my newest story ideas. it's another post-apocalyptic one because i have a lot of fun thinking up those.

the last story i'm working on is cooper's story, and then next semester i'll start work on a comic version of one of these four ideas.

093 - character design

after i finished my myth u characters, i went onto fleshing out nottingham's story. this semester is really great for me, i'm actually coming up with plotlines for sets of characters that had none in the past. i really want to sit down and make a 'paper doll' type thing for wren, since he/she reincarnates so much over history - i would get to draw all sorts of historical outfits which would make the almost-history major in me very happy.

(i'm also really happy that i finally sat down and drew reference for hollom's tattoos. i always forget what they look like.)

EDIT: i finished the final illustration on this one. it might still need a bit more work, but i think it shows the real basis of this story. wren and nott are pretty much just two guys who get drunk and goof off and avoid all responsibilities. and one just happens to be a disheartened deity.

092 - character design

i decided that for my senior project this semester, i'm working on multiple storylines and sets of character designs instead of just doing one story. next semester, i'm going to pick one story and actually start working on a comic version.

for one of my classes we had to take photos of a person in their environment and do a piece based off it, so i did my roommate and friend alexandria compo.

090 - character design

for one of my senior project classes, i'm working on my character designs for different story ideas that i have. what i really hope to accomplish this semester is making my characters look separate from each other, since my style tends to make them all look rather similar.

the first story i'm working on is my 'myth u' one. since each character have three distinct outfits, i decided to make a sort of 'paper doll' base for each to work off of, and then just draw the outfits on top of that. this is something that i might continue doing throughout the semester, as it's a good way to get the outfit idea down on paper and also a good reference for any colour illustrations i plan on doing in the future.
