finally finished with my five piece series. originally, i had wanted a group of bohemians drinking absinthe and being rowdy above a parisian skyline, but in the end i settled on a lone aardwolf, and i rather like it being just him.
now, today i should really be printing and preparing these to deliver on monday... but i'm a bit preoccupied by doctor who.
fourth out of five pieces. some prohibition-era meerkats trying to get into a speakeasy. all i have left now is french bohemia!
Third out of five - some greasers skipping class. Finally I got to do one that wasn't set at night or in dark smoky beat poetry clubs. That weasel also might be competing with beatnik sloth as my favourite.
second piece out of five finished for my show next month. this time i did some stereotypical beatniks. and i think i need to draw beatnik sloths forever.
i think i will end up putting next on each of these, but i'm going to make what look like spreads. the illustration will be on one side and on the other will be a plain page with some children's book looking text in the center. and maybe some fitting vignettes in the corner.
a friend and i are having a small showing of some art in our favourite little cafe next month, so i'm working on some new things for it. i think we're going with a 'children's book styled illustrations of things that aren't meant for children's books' theme. specifically, i'm doing cute storybook animals done up as destructive past subcultures. so obviously, i had to get my mods and rockers out of the way first.
i'm in a heap of summer ennui at the moment, so watching the pacific and doing these is pretty much all i feel like doing - it's too hot for anything else.
the more i rewatch episodes and read the real sledge's book, the more and more i love snafu. what a character he was.
these things are good practice for me over the summer, i have a lot of fun doing them.
on my first run through of this series, i think i was far too preoccupied waiting for snafu and sledge to show up to notice ashton holmes. i am remedying this now by re-watching the series and paying closer attention. i want to do another one of ashton, because i really want to paint his blue eyes.
also, i bought the real sledge's book and have been enjoying it very much so far.
well, i said that i would do sledge and his pipe, so i did. joe mazzello is a pretty cool dude, guys.i think i need to keep doing these sort of speedpaints to keep me in practice over the summer.screencap ref from here.
i recently finished the hbo miniseries the pacific and i absolutely loved it. i'm a major history nerd, so show me a good wwii story and i'll eat it up. snafu and sledge were my favourites, so i decided to take a cap of snafu i found going through the pacific tag on tumblr (this tumblr to be specific) and do a speed painting. all together it took me a little over an hour and a half or so. i'm still working on my speed-painting skills, this doesn't look enough like rami malek for me to be completely satisfied with it. but it will do for now.
i now want to do one of sledgehammer. with his pipe.
